Brilliant bit of kit. I'm a sparky and usually use a Fluke, but needed a backup. This wire locator traces ring mains through plasterboard just as well for a fraction of the price. The LCD screen is a massive plus in dark lofts.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Traces cables accurately and the voltage detection is spot on. Only giving 4 stars because the battery compartment cover is a bit stiff to get off the first time, but otherwise excellent value.
I was hesitant to buy a non-premium brand for site work, but this cable finder tool is fantastic. It feels robust, the carry case is handy, and it found a short circuit under a floorboard that had been driving me mad.
The backlit digital display makes all the difference compared to the old analogue tone probes. You can visually see the signal getting stronger as you get closer to the wire. Highly recommend this cable tracing tool.
How to Trace Cables
- Connect the transmitter's red lead to the target cable and the black lead to an independent earth (for optimal depth tracing).
- Turn on both the transmitter and the receiver. Ensure the receiver is set to the correct mode (manual or auto).
- Sweep the receiver probe along the wall, floor, or cable bundle. Watch the LCD signal strength indicator and listen for the audible tone.
- Follow the strongest signal to trace the cable path. A sudden drop in signal indicates a break or fault in the wire.
